Bob first came back to Vietnam in 2008, but he has been
living in the small seaside city of Tuy Hoa ever since. He runs his own
restaurant and hostel there. Tuy Hoa is well off the beaten track, but is
picturesque with its ancient cham ruins dotted around a transforming city and
beautiful white sand beaches. He has also written The Duck Pond, which is an
enjoyable read that recounts his time in the brown water of the blue water
navy. It has a McHale’s Navy feel to it, but gives a lot of insight into the
problems at large with America’s military presence in Vietnam.
